This article is a little different from what I usually write.
Instead of reviewing a watch, I want to introduce you to a brand that hasn’t even launched yet. Chronvale is still in development, with the first prototypes expected in September and the official release planned for later this year.
This is also the first time I’ve had an interview with the founder of an upcoming microbrand to tell their story before the watch itself exists.
I think that’s important because every watch starts with an idea, but behind every brand is a person with a journey. And after hearing that journey, I felt it deserved to be shared.
So let’s see where Chronvale really begin.
The man behind Chronvale
Every month, new microbrands appear. Most of them promise better specifications, a familiar design with a different logo, or incredible value for money.
Chronvale isn’t trying to compete that way.
Its story begins long before the first prototype was ever drawn.
The person behind Chronvale is Aldin Sivic, a Bosnian-born founder, whose story is unlike most people entering the watch industry today.

His journey begins in Bosanska Krupa, Bosnia, a place not known for watchmaking, but for its dramatic natural landscapes, turquoise rivers, waterfalls, rich cultural history, and a resilient people shaped by centuries of different influences and, more recently, war.
Growing up in this beautiful part of Bosnia, Aldin was surrounded by nature, but his childhood was shaped by something much heavier.
Every day was a struggle. Growing up during and in the aftermath of the war, there were times when simply making it to the next day wasn’t something he could take for granted.
The war left Aldin’s father in a wheelchair, but it never took away his strength or his belief in his son. He became much more than a father. He was Aldin’s greatest supporter, his inspiration, his safe place, and the person who always reminded him that anything was possible if he was willing to work for it.
Years later, Aldin moved to Vienna, Austria, where he still lives today. He works full-time as a gardener from 6:30 until 16:30, while balancing life as a husband and father. After work and during weekends, he dedicates every spare moment to building Chronvale from the ground up.
There are no investors. No large companies behind him.
Just PURE determination.
When watches became stories
For Aldin, watches were never about owning the most expensive pieces or building a large collection.
For years, mechanical watches were something he admired from a distance. They were fascinating, but often outside of what he could afford. Therefore instead of collecting, he learned.
He watched documentaries, studied movements, followed independent brands, and slowly immersed himself in the world of mechanical watchmaking.
Along the way, his perspective on watches began to change.
He realized that a mechanical watch is one of the few objects we own that can outlive us. Properly cared for, it can be passed down from parent to child, and one day even to a grandchild.
That idea fascinated him.
A mechanical watch wasn’t just an object anymore. It was something that could carry memories, mark milestones, and tell a family’s story across generations.
That’s when watches stopped being products in Aldin’s eyes.
They became stories.
And the watch that left the deepest impression on him wasn’t a luxury Swiss timepiece.
It was his father’s Seiko 5.
A simple watch, but one that carried extraordinary meaning. It was his father’s companion during the war, a witness to difficult times, and a reminder that watches can hold memories far beyond their mechanical purpose.
When Aldin’s father passed away in 2018, he never had the chance to meet his granddaughter, Sara.
That loss forced Aldin to ask himself a question many of us eventually face.
What will I leave behind?
The answer wasn’t money. It wasn’t building the biggest company possible. It was creating something meaningful. Something that could survive him. Something his daughter could one day wear.
Chronvale became that answer.
A story of family and resilience
Life had already taught Aldin more about loss than most people experience in a lifetime. Together, he and his wife experienced the unimaginable loss of her 18-year-old son in a tragic accident, a young man he loved as if he were his own. They then faced four heartbreaking miscarriages before finally welcoming their daughter, Sara, into the world.
For Aldin, Sara is their miracle.

After everything they experienced, she represents hope, love, and the future they fought so hard for.
Today, his wife and daughter are the center of his world. After everything they have been through together, they represent the love, strength, and motivation that drive him forward every day.
One of Aldin’s dreams is to one day create a women’s collection dedicated to his wife, the woman who never stopped believing in him and stood by his side throughout this journey.
Everything Aldin is building, is for his family.
How Chronvale was born
The journey into watchmaking wasn’t something he had planned.
It all started with a friendship.
Years ago, he met Terry, the founder of STROND Timepieces. At the time, Aldin wasn’t building watches, he was helping Terry with storytelling, creative ideas, and visual concepts. Through that collaboration, he got a rare behind-the-scenes look at what it really takes to bring a watch brand to life.
Terry saw something in Aldin long before Aldin saw it in himself. Time and again, he encouraged him to create his own brand.
At first, the idea seemed impossible.
But the more Aldin learned about the industry and witnessed the journey of an independent microbrand from the inside, the more he realized that perhaps he could do it too.
That simple encouragement eventually became the spark that set Chronvale in motion.
Without Terry’s belief in him, Chronvale might never have existed.

The meaning behind Chronvale
From the beginning, Chronvale was never meant to be just another name on a watch dial. Aldin wanted the brand to carry a connection to his roots, his journey, and the values that shaped him.
That idea is already reflected in the name itself. “Chron” represents time, while “Vale” comes from the valley surrounding his hometown of Bosanska Krupa, where the Una River flows. Together, they represent the connection between time and the place where his story began.
Everything behind Chronvale follows the same philosophy:
Bosnian soul. Austrian work ethic. Swiss precision.
That connection to his heritage continues through the symbol that defines Chronvale.
The Bosnian Lily, Lilium Bosniacum, is more than just a logo or a design element. It represents Aldin’s roots, his identity, and the country where his story began.
From the beginning, his goal was to create a watch that could be recognized even without the brand name on the dial. A symbol that, when seen from across the room, immediately tells a story.
For Aldin, the lily represents much more than Bosnia itself. It represents resilience, history, and the journey that led him to create Chronvale. Every time someone sees that symbol, he wants them to see more than a watch, they should see a piece of his story and the values behind the brand.

Building a watch for generations
That same philosophy continues with the first Chronvale timepiece. Rather than launching with another diver like so many young brands, Aldin deliberately chose the harder path.
The first Chronvale watch will be a timeless dress watch, a choice that reflects his desire to create something elegant, lasting, and independent from short-lived trends. He doesn’t want the brand to be remembered simply for following what is popular today, but for creating watches that can still feel relevant decades from now.
Inside the watches will be a proven Sellita or ETA movements. Not because it is the most attention-grabbing specification on paper, but because reliability and long-term ownership matter. These movements have a strong reputation, are widely serviceable, and give owners confidence that their watch can be enjoyed for many years to come.
For Aldin, trust is one of the most important parts of building Chronvale. When someone buys their first watch from the brand, they are not only buying a design, they are placing their trust in the person behind it.
He wants owners to talk about the story, the craftsmanship, and the emotional connection behind the watch, rather than worrying about whether it will stand the test of time.
After spending time talking with Aldin, one sentence stayed with me more than any other:
“I’m not trying to build the biggest watch brand. I’m trying to build one that my father would have been proud to wear, and that one day my daughter will be proud to inherit.”
In a world where it’s easy to get caught up in specifications, limited editions, and the next release, Chronvale feels different.
It is the story of a son carrying forward the belief his father gave him. It is the story of a husband honoring the woman who never stopped supporting his dream. And it is the story of a father creating something meaningful that his daughter can one day inherit, not just as a watch, but as a reminder of the journey behind it.
Only time will tell where Chronvale’s journey will lead. Maybe one day it will become a recognized name in the watch world, or maybe it will remain a small independent brand built by one man with a very personal mission.
But after hearing Aldin’s story, I believe Chronvale was never really about creating just another watch brand.
It is the story of a boy from Bosnia who grew up surrounded by the scars of war, but who refused to let those experiences define his future.
It is the story of a son who carried the memory of his father—the man who believed in him when nobody else did—and wanted to create something that would make him proud.
It is the story of a husband who found strength beside the woman who never stopped supporting him, and a father who wants his daughter Sara to one day hold something that carries the story of where she came from.
Every watchmaker puts a piece of themselves into their creations.
For Aldin, Chronvale is not just a design, a movement, or a name on the dial.
It is a lifetime of experiences—the hardship, the love, the losses, and the determination to keep moving forward.
Because Chronvale did not begin with a watch.
It began with a father’s belief, a son’s promise, and Aldin’s dream to leave something meaningful behind.
