Behind Stripa are two founders and passionate watch enthusiasts Sinka Péter Bálint and Tisza Klaudia, a power couple you could say, who spent five years refining the concept through constant testing, material experimentation, and real-life use. Péter, the inventor and developer behind the brand, approached the project with a minimalist mindset focused on simplifying everything to its core while creating something genuinely functional. Together with Klaudia, they built the brand by hand, and the straps are still handmade by them to this day.
The goal was simple yet ambitious: create a strap that allows you to wear your watch comfortably and securely in every situation without constantly adjusting it or dealing with uncomfortable clasps and buckles and so on. That passion, attention to detail, and genuine love for watches can clearly be felt in the final product.
Let’s talk about the strap first
The construction of the Stripa strap itself is also worth highlighting, as it involves far more engineering than most people would expect from a watch strap. I’ve reached out to the team to request some behind-the-scenes photos of the production process, which you’ll find included in this review as well.

The elastic core layer was developed and refined over three years of testing until it achieved the exact balance of tension, flexibility, and durability needed for the system to work properly. It provides the characteristic holding force of the Stripa while still allowing enough stretch for comfort and movement. The material is shape-retaining, highly durable, and resistant to UV exposure as well as seawater.
To maintain stability on the wrist, the strap also incorporates a specially designed rigid support layer with carefully defined stiffness, thickness, and material properties. This layer reduces excessive pressure from the elastic section while helping the watch remain stable during movement and sport.

Comfort was clearly another major focus during development. The inner comfort layer that touches the skin was originally developed for baby clothing and carries OEKO-TEX® 100 certification, meaning it was produced using harmful substance–free technology. This makes the strap exceptionally soft and comfortable even during long-term wear or in hot weather.

Another clever detail is the anti-slip layer, which allows continuous micro-adjustment while also stabilizing the strap’s position on the wrist. It helps balance the direct tension of the elastic layer and contributes to the overall secure feeling of the system.
At the heart of the Stripa is its unique double-loop system and buckle-free design. Instead of relying on traditional fastening methods, the watch itself becomes part of the mechanism. The result is an incredibly clean, minimalist, and lightweight wearing experience without pressure points or bulky hardware.

What impressed me most is how adaptive the strap feels during movement. The automatic tensioning effect genuinely works. Whether walking, training, swimming, or simply going through daily activities, the watch stays close to the wrist without feeling restrictive. Unlike many traditional straps, it does not slide around or constantly require readjustment during activity.
The double-loop construction also adds an extra level of security. Because of the way the strap tightens and secures the watch on the wrist, it honestly feels far safer than a traditional strap setup and significantly more difficult for someone to quickly pull the watch off your wrist. The system creates a very secure, almost theft-resistant feeling during everyday wear and travel.

Real life experience
I’ve personally been using the Stripa for around two years now with my Seiko H558-5000, and during that time it has proven itself in actual day-to-day use rather than just a few wrist shots at home. It has been with me through travelling, long walks around cities, swimming pools, hikes, hot summer days, and plenty of moments where cheaper straps usually start to show wear or become uncomfortable. Instead, the Stripa simply kept doing its job without drawing attention to itself, which honestly is one of the best compliments you can give a watch strap.
One of the biggest tests for it was a two-month trip to Vietnam. The strap saw basically everything there: tropical heat, constant humidity, sudden rain, sweaty days spent walking around crowded streets, ocean swims, boat trips, and daily wear from morning until night. Those kinds of conditions usually expose weaknesses very quickly. Some straps become stiff, others start smelling, fraying, or simply feel unpleasant on the wrist after continuous exposure to moisture and heat. The Stripa handled it all surprisingly well. Even after weeks of being exposed to salt water, humidity, sunscreen, sweat, and constant use, it never became uncomfortable or showed signs of giving up. Just rinse in it in tap water and it’s always good to go.

At the same time, comfort is probably the thing I appreciate the most about it. The strap molds naturally to the wrist, stays secure without feeling restrictive, and somehow manages to disappear once you wear it for a while. It is genuinely one of those straps you forget you are wearing, which is not something I can say about many rugged or military-style straps. Even during long travel days or full days spent outside in the heat, I never found myself wanting to take it off or adjust it constantly.
What makes the Stripa truly special is that it does not try to imitate traditional straps. Instead, it completely rethinks how a watch should fit and move with the wrist. For sports, travel, active lifestyles, or simply anyone who values comfort and innovation, it offers something genuinely different.
At the moment, the Stripa strap is available in both 20mm and 22mm lug widths, making it compatible with a wide range of watches, from vintage divers to modern sports watches and smartwatches. It is also offered in several different color options, allowing you to choose between more understated everyday looks or something a bit more eye-catching depending on your style.
Below are a few photos from Vietnam, wearing Arnie on the Stripa while enjoying some seriously good coffee.

All that said but who would I recommend this strap?
In my opinion, the Stripa works best with rugged tool watches, dive watches, field watches, and smartwatches made for heavy-duty activities. This is a strap designed for movement, adventure, travel, sport, and everyday practicality rather than formal elegance.
If you are someone who hikes, cycles, swims, travels, trains, or simply wants a watch to stay secure and comfortable throughout an active day, the Stripa makes a lot of sense. It especially shines when paired with watches that are meant to be used as actual tools rather than purely as jewelry.
That said the new colourful version might fit different type of watches too. Would work well with any gada – go anywhere do anything type of watches.
Personally I would not pair it with dressier or more elegant watches. The strap has a very functional, technical character, and while that is exactly what makes it special, it naturally fits better with robust, rugged sport-oriented tool watches than with classic dress pieces.
It is one of those products that makes more sense the longer you wear it. After some time, constantly readjusting a normal strap during activity starts to feel outdated. The combination of comfort, stability, and security creates a very different wearing experience compared to traditional straps, especially during long days, travel, or physical activities.
I’m currently testing the yellow version on my Seiko H558-5000, and below you can see a few photos taken during a hike. Perfect color for summer I think and so comfortable on the wrist!
