Watch reviews: Casio Gshock GA-B2100BNR alias the EvilOak

It’s no secret that Casio has held a special place in my heart since I was a child. Over the years, I’ve built a small collection of their watches, ranging from sleek Edifice models to rugged G-SHOCKs, each one carrying its own story and memory. Yet, there was always one type of Casio I longed for but never seemed to find the right one, the iconic Oak models. I searched, I waited, but nothing ever quite clicked(unfortunately I missed the Manga version, couldn’t get one)… until the day I came across the GA-B2100 Ignite Red. From the moment I laid eyes on it, I was hooked. The combination of its bold black case and fiery red accents spoke to me in a way no other watch had, and I knew instantly that this one was different

Falling for the Ignite Red wasn’t just about aesthetics. It was about everything Casio represents: resilience, innovation, and a design philosophy that refuses to compromise. It spoke to the part of me that values both function and character, that wants a watch capable of surviving life’s knocks while looking unapologetically bold. In that moment, I knew I wasn’t just buying a watch, I was finally holding the Oak I’d always dreamed of.

You may be wondering why is it called the EvilOak. Let me tell you

To be honest it is a quiet simple story. It wasn’t born in a marketing meeting, it simply came from a buddy of mine who loves the Oak line and he just took one look at the watch and said:
“Man… that G-SHOCK looks evil.”
And honestly? He wasn’t wrong.

The red accents hit hard against the deep black case, giving this Oak a slightly aggressive, almost menacing vibe. This is the kind of watch that doesn’t ask for attention, but gets it anyway.

The GA-B2100BNR

The iconic black G-SHOCK case paired with blazing red details feels like controlled fire. The octagonal bezel keeps that familiar Casioak silhouette, but the red highlights on the dial bring tension and energy to the design.

It’s sporty, tough, and bold. On the wrist, it feels like gear and not jewelry. And that’s exactly the point. While the watch has a slimmer and a tad bit smaller dimensions to the average Gshocks with its 48.5 × 45.4 × 11.9 mm dimensions, don’t be fooled. It is as rugged as they get. Comes with 200m water resistance and durability like other G-s. It is shock resistant and comes with a carbon core guard.

Rain, sweat, knocks, daily chaos, this watch doesn’t care. It’s built to survive real life, not just desk duty. It is as tough as it gets, but beside that it is wearable and comfortable on the wrist. The resin strap is well made, keeps the watch safely and relatively comfortably on any wrists.

Feature-wise, this watch comes loaded with everything you could realistically need. You get all the essentials: a 1/100-second chronograph with up to 24-hour timing, bright LED backlight(more on this a bit later), countdown timer, world time, perpetual calendar, day and date display, 24-hour format, and alarms. Nothing unnecessary, nothing missing just a well-rounded, dependable watch that does its job without overcomplicating things.

Beside the cool features one more reason I picked this model though, is its Tough Solar technology(not all Oak has that one), one of my absolute favorite Casio innovations. There’s no need to worry about replacing batteries; just expose it to any light source, well ideally some good sunlight and it’s always powered up and ready to go. Simple, reliable, and brilliantly practical.

While this model does not have multiband 6, it comes with a bluetooth connectivity. I am not a keen on this feature but it is easy to use. Just connect it to your phone and it will sync easily.

So about the light. It comes with a Double LED Super Illuminator that lights up the watch nicely, though the illumination is slightly uneven(see on the photo below). Even so, it’s bright enough to make the display easy to read in low-light or dark conditions.

Final thoughts

Where the EvilOak really stands out is in everyday wearability. It’s rugged enough to handle pretty much anything life throws at it, yet slim and comfortable enough to wear all day without feeling bulky. The analog-digital layout makes it super easy to read at a glance, and with Tough Solar on board, it’ll keep running for up to seven months under normal use or 18 months if you let the power-saving mode do its thing.

The Casio EvilOak isn’t about elegance or subtlety. It’s bold. It’s confident. It’s pure function and toughness wrapped in black armor with flashes of red fire.

Does it look a bit Evil? Maybe, but I just love it dares to be different.

And every time I strap it on, it reminds me exactly why G-SHOCK remains the gold standard for true, no-nonsense tool watches for an affordable price. Great watch and a good addition for any collection.
