Introducing a Japanese micro‑brand delivering stylish, vintage-inspired watches
Founded in 2020 by Kenji Uchimura, KUOE draws its inspiration not from passing trends, but from the past, creating vintage inspired models.
The brands story begins much earlier than its official launch. In 2010, while studying language in London, Kenji Uchimura wandered into a small shop that sold antique watches. There, he encountered hand-wound timepieces from the 1940s through the ’70s — watches that had quietly measured time for decades, yet still ticked with character and reliability.
Determined to one day create his own watch brand that honored that same timeless quality and design, he returned to Japan and joined a watch company in Kyoto. Immersed in the world of horology, he refined his knowledge and developed a vision: to introduce classically styled watches, inspired by the antiques of London, into the modern era.
In 2020, that dream became a reality with the launch of KUOE and its debut model, the Old Smith 90-001 — a compact 35mm quartz watch that channeled vintage aesthetics with a clean, elegant design. (see below, source from https://www.kuoe-en.com/old-smith-90-001)

Since then, KUOE has expanded into automatic models like the Old Smith 90-002 and the premium Royal Smith series, all staying true to the brand’s mission:
“The appeal of classic design — from Kyoto to the world.”
Each KUOE timepiece reflects a love for traditional craftsmanship, understated elegance, and wearability. From textured dials to carefully chosen case proportions, they capture the essence of vintage watches — not by copying the past, but by reinterpreting it with care and purpose.
Whether you’re a seasoned collector or just starting your horological journey, KUOE offers a unique bridge between history and modern-day watchmaking — and a chance to wear a little piece of classic design on your wrist.
The Story Behind the KUOE Name
Curious about the origin of the name, I reached out to KUOE directly — and I’m glad I did. It turns out the name isn’t just a random selection of letters or a Japanese word as I assumed. It’s actually a clever acronym, formed from the founder’s name and birthday. A personal and meaningful touch that adds an extra layer of charm to the brand.
