There is something about a black-dial watch that just works. Add a worldtimer, a slim in-house movement and a healthy dose of Super-LumiNova, and things get even more interesting.

NOMOS Glashütte has just introduced the Club Sport neomatik Worldtimer dark, giving its popular Club Worldtimer a completely different character. The recipe is pretty simple: take the familiar 40mm Club Sport case, give it a glossy enamel-black dial, add plenty of luminous material and let the world-time display do the talking.

And I have to say, it looks rather good.

The new black dial changes the personality of the watch quite dramatically. On the previous silver and blue versions, the world-time layout is very much part of the visual design. Here, the black background allows the off-white numerals, markers, city ring and home-time display to stand out much more strongly.

But the biggest change isn’t actually the colour.

More lume than ever before

For the first time in the Club Sport neomatik Worldtimer, Super-LumiNova isn’t limited to the hands and hour markers.

The city ring and home-time indicator also glow blue, giving the entire world-time display a completely different look once the lights go down.

NOMOS has used precisely cast luminous elements with a high concentration of Super-LumiNova pigments, so the intention isn’t simply to make the watch readable at night. The luminous city ring becomes an important part of the design itself.

It is basically the worldtimer in night mode.

And that makes quite a lot of sense for a watch designed around travelling between time zones.

A Worldtimer that stays slim

Inside is the DUW 3202, NOMOS’ in-house automatic movement(more on this a bit later) developed and produced in Glashütte.

It provides the world-time complication, a 24-hour display and day/night indication while keeping the entire watch remarkably slim at just 9.9mm thick.

The main dial shows local time, while the subdial at 3 o’clock keeps track of home time. The local time can be adjusted with the pusher, making the watch particularly practical when moving between time zones.

The movement itself is also nicely finished, and the sapphire caseback gives a clear view of the Glashütte-style decoration, including the three-quarter plate, Glashütte ribbing, perlage and thermally blued screws. The rotor carries a small gold globe, which is a nice little detail for a worldtimer.

The DUW 3202

As mentioned earlier, the heart of the Club Sport neomatik Worldtimer dark is the NOMOS DUW 3202, an automatic manufacture movement developed and produced in Glashütte specifically to handle the world-time complication.

Despite packing quite a bit of functionality into the movement, it measures just 4.8mm thick, helping NOMOS keep the entire watch at an impressive 9.9mm.

The DUW 3202 features the NOMOS Swing System, a Glashütte three-quarter plate, DUW regulation system and a bidirectionally winding rotor. It also receives a six-position adjustment, seconds stop and 37 jewels, with a power reserve of approximately 42 hours.

And this is definitely a movement worth looking at. Through the sapphire caseback, there is plenty of traditional NOMOS finishing on display, including Glashütte ribbing, perlage and thermally blued screws. The rotor also carries a small gold globe, a fitting little detail for a movement designed to keep track of the world’s time zones.

For me, this is one of those cases where the movement isn’t just there to make the watch tick. It is a big part of what makes the Worldtimer interesting in the first place.

A new look for the Club Worldtimer

The new dark version joins the existing Club Sport neomatik Worldtimer models in the NOMOS core collection, bringing a much darker and more understated option to the lineup.

While the silver, blue and white versions have a more traditional and bright character, this one is all about contrast. The glossy black enamel dial creates a clean background for the off-white details, while the blue lume adds another layer once the light disappears.

It doesn’t change what the Club Sport Worldtimer is, but it does change how it feels on the wrist. The same world-time functionality and slim 40mm case are still there, but the darker dial gives it a more modern, slightly more technical character.

The NOMOS Club Sport neomatik Worldtimer dark is priced at €4400.

And at that price, it is definitely not an impulse purchase. But looking at the black dial, the colourful world-time display and all that lume, I can certainly understand why someone might be tempted.

My thoughts on this release

I really like this one. The black dial works incredibly well, and that Pepsi-style inner ring around the subdial adds just enough colour to break up the darkness without taking anything away from the clean NOMOS look.

And then there’s the lume. Seeing the city ring and home-time indicator light up alongside the hands and markers is such a cool touch. It gives the watch a completely different personality once the lights go down.

Technically, there is a lot to like here too: the slim 40mm case, the in-house movement, the worldtimer complication and that beautifully finished movement visible through the sapphire caseback.

One thing I can already imagine, though, is that glossy black enamel dial being a bit of a nightmare to photograph. It will probably pick up every reflection in sight and make getting the right shot a challenge. But that’s another story.

So yes, I think it’s an amazing watch. Would I rock it? Absolutely. Can I afford it? Well… wouldn’t you be curious to find out?
