Watch reviews: CHRIS BENZ ONE MAN 200M DÈFI WIND EDITION

Sometimes a watch arrives in your collection through careful planning, months of research, and endless comparisons. Other times, luck takes the wheel.

The CHRIS BENZ ONE MAN 200M DÈFI WIND EDITION found its way to me through a giveaway, making it one of the more unexpected additions to my watch box. While I was certainly happy to win it, what intrigued me even more was the story behind the watch itself.

A Watch Inspired by a Unique Event

The DÈFI WIND is no ordinary sporting event. Held in Gruissan, France, it has become the largest windsurfing gathering in the world, bringing together over a thousand professional and amateur windsurfers on the same starting line. More than just a competition, it is a week-long celebration of windsurfing culture, community, and music.

To commemorate this globally recognized event, CHRIS BENZ partnered with the DÈFI WIND team to create a special limited edition watch designed to withstand the demanding conditions of life around the water.

Let’s see our Hero

As always, I will start with the packaging, as it deserves a mention. CHRIS BENZ’s signature diving bottle presentation remains one of the more distinctive watch boxes and perfectly complements the brand’s aquatic identity. It is not just a box that protects the watch during shipping; it feels like part of the experience and immediately sets the tone for what is inside.

The attention to detail here really elevates the whole package and adds a level of character that you simply don’t expect at this price point. At €249, receiving a watch presented in such a unique and well-thought-out way is honestly a pleasant surprise. Many watches in this category focus solely on the timepiece itself and often overlook the unboxing experience, so seeing a brand put effort into creating something memorable makes a real difference.

Let’s get back to the watch, shall we? The silver dial of this model is beautifully executed, offering a clean and highly legible layout while still having enough details to keep things interesting. Surrounding the dial is a contrasting black chapter ring, which not only adds depth but also enhances readability.

At 12 o’clock sits the CHRIS BENZ shark logo, with the brand name positioned just beneath it, creating a balanced and recognizable signature. At 9 o’clock, the special DÈFI WIND name and logo take their place, beautifully integrated into the design and adding a unique identity to this limited edition. It is a small detail, but one that immediately separates this watch from a standard dive watch and reminds you of the event and story behind it.

At 3 o’clock, we find the practical day and date complication, while above the 6 o’clock position, the dial proudly displays the 200M water resistance rating and quartz movement indication.

While at first glance it might seem like there is a lot of text and information packed onto the dial, somehow it all works together beautifully. The placement of the logo, the date window, the DÈFI WIND branding, and the specifications create a nicely balanced, almost square-like layout. It gives the dial a sense of symmetry and structure rather than making it feel cluttered, which is something I really appreciate.

Everything is protected by a sapphire crystal, offering excellent scratch resistance, while the unidirectional rotating bezel completes the package.

Here I have to stop for a moment and talk about the bezel. This is not exactly a criticism, but it is something worth mentioning as it might bother some. The bezel action is exceptionally stiff and requires noticeably more force to turn than most dive watches I have handled.

Now, there is a positive side to this. Once set, there is virtually no chance of accidentally moving it. In fact, I have experienced a bezel being shifted by larger waves while swimming with my Oris titanium diver, something that is highly unlikely to happen here. For a watch designed around water sports, that level of security certainly has its advantages.

Functionality first

Now, what do I mean by that? The ONE MAN 200M follows a straightforward philosophy: functionality first. From the moment you pick it up, it is clear that this is a watch designed as a reliable tool rather than a luxury statement. The combination of the highly legible dial, practical layout, strong lume, and robust construction all serve a purpose.

The marine-grade stainless steel case gives the watch a reassuring presence on the wrist. It has a solid feel and a comfortable weight without becoming cumbersome, while the overall finishing remains clean and purposeful. It is a watch that feels ready for adventure, whether that means time spent around the water or simply being worn as a dependable everyday companion.

The specifications make this even more clear. The 200-meter water resistance, screw-down crown, and screw-down caseback provide the kind of durability that most owners will never fully test, but it’s always nice to know it’s there. Whether you’re windsurfing, swimming, sailing, or simply getting caught in a summer storm, the watch should handle it without hesitation.

Powering the watch is a Miyota 2105 quartz movement. This reliable Japanese quartz movement offers excellent accuracy and dependable performance. It features a day and date complication, a battery life of approximately three years, and a compact design that makes it a practical choice for an everyday sports watch. Known for its durability and low-maintenance operation, the Miyota 2105 perfectly fits the functional character of this model. It’s not the most expensive movement, nor the fanciest but it does a good job to keep the watch ticking.

One of my favorite aspects of this watch is the engraved caseback and the signed clasp.

The exclusive DÈFI WIND embossing and individual serial number help reinforce the limited-edition nature of the watch. It’s a small detail, but one that gives owners a stronger connection to both the event and the watch itself.

This model comes fitted with a marine-grade stainless steel bracelet, secured by a folding clasp with an engraved safety lock. It feels well made, comfortable on the wrist, and complements the overall package nicely, it’s nothing new but it does it’s job. Sizing is also refreshingly straightforward, as the links can be removed simply by unscrewing them. Considering the price point, it’s a well-executed bracelet that does exactly what it needs to do.

The clasp is one of its stronger points, offering five micro-adjustment positions, making it easy to fine-tune the fit for excellent comfort. The bracelet feels solid, matches the tool-watch character of the ONE MAN 200M well, and never gave me a reason to worry during daily wear. Overall, it is a practical, functional bracelet that complements the watch without trying to be something it isn’t.

On my 17 cm wrist, the watch sits very comfortably. To be honest, its proportions are just about perfect for me. With a 39 mm case diameter and a thickness of only 11.4 mm, it strikes an excellent balance between wearability and wrist presence. It feels substantial enough to remind you it’s there, yet never bulky or top-heavy. The result is a watch that wears beautifully throughout the day and has a confident presence on the wrist without ever feeling oversized.

Final thoughts

The CHRIS BENZ ONE MAN 200M DÈFI WIND EDITION is not trying to reinvent the dive watch formula. Instead, it focuses on doing the basics exceptionally well while celebrating one of the most unique sporting events in the world.

Its combination of robust construction, practical specifications, excellent legibility, and genuine connection to the windsurfing community makes it a compelling sports watch. Add the limited-edition status and the fun story of how it ended up in my collection, and it becomes an even more enjoyable piece to own.

What I particularly enjoyed was the dial design. The silver dial is clean and highly legible, while the DÈFI WIND logo and decoration give it a unique personality without overwhelming the overall design. The special engraved caseback is another highlight for me, adding an extra touch of exclusivity and serving as a constant reminder of the event that inspired the watch.

While the bezel is definitely on the stiffer side and may not be to everyone’s taste, it is ultimately a minor point in an otherwise very positive ownership experience. At the end of the day, this is a well-built, capable, and distinctive sports watch that offers a lot for its price.

Would I have discovered this watch without winning the giveaway? Probably not.

Am I glad I did? Absolutely.

5 positions of microadjust? That’s wilddddd. Love that. Grand Seiko, please take notes…

It looks quite good in an ugly way, if that makes sense xD I mean that in a complimentary way, much like how a Doxa sub 300T Professional or an Aquastar diver look ugly in a great way.

Love your review, as per usual!

Somehow for me, in this case the logos work. But yeah, not everyone’s cup of tea
